Produce the full Tender packages for C&I works including: RCC Dam approx. 800,000 m3 and 100 m high, Re-regulating Dam, 2 x Diversion Tunnels, 2 Power units in the Surface Power Station 300 MW, Infrastructure Works; Construct new dwellings and relocation of villagers. Value: USD 750 MM.
My Tasks and Responsibilities
Producing and updating the very detailed Project Implementation Time-schedule. Assembling the BoQ’s and the Cost Estimates. Issuing the Cash Flow curves. Maintaining close interaction with the Design team and excellent relationships with Client’s project staff. Training Client’s staff in planning and monitoring techniques.
Tools: Primavera P6 along with MS Project and Excel spreadsheets and graphs.
Gilgel GIBE III Hydropower Project, Ethiopia

Contractor’s Scope
Civil construction works including: RCC Dam 6,000,000 m3 and 240 m high, 2 x Power Tunnels, Gates and Surge Shafts, 10 Power units in the Surface Power Station 2,000 MW, RC Spillway on dam’s crest, Infrastructure Works. Value: USD 2 billion approx.
My Tasks and Responsibilities
Leading a team of 5 local engineers. Producing the revised Baseline time-schedule. Providing monthly schedule updates. Weekly updating and producing the Two weeks look ahead schedule reports. Organizing and maintaining the database with site reports on actual productivities. Participating in weekly meetings: internal coordination, coordination with the E&M contractor, coordination with the Owner. Participating in Monthly progress meetings with the Owner. Identifying time-schedule related documents in the history of the project and discussing them with the project’s Claims consultant in charge with producing time-related Claims for Time extension.

Contractor’s Scope
Civil and E&M works including: RCC Dam 1,000,000 m3 and 100 m high, 5 km Power Tunnel partially shotcrete lined, Surge/expansion gallery, 2 Power units in the Surface Power Station 210 MW, RC Spillway on dam’s crest, Infrastructure Works; Value. USD 410 MM approx.
My Tasks and Responsibilities
Leading a team of 2 local engineers + E&M planner. Providing monthly updates of the time-schedule. Weekly updating and producing the three weeks look ahead schedule reports. Issuing the project’s As Built schedule. Organizing and maintaining the site reports on actual productivities. Participating in weekly meetings: coordination internal, coordination with the E&M partner in the JV. Identifying time-schedule related documents in the history of the project and discussing them with the project’s Quantum claims consultant. Performing numerous Time Impact Analysis on the project schedule and calculating the corresponding EoT. Participating in hearings with the project’s DAB – Dispute Adjudication Board. Successfully demonstrating contractor’s entitlement to 3+ months EoT.

Three Gorges Dam Project, Hubei Province, China
I’ve been involved as Concrete Engineer & Liaison Engineer for concrete works.
Subcontractor: Rotec Industries, USA., manufacturer and owner of the leased equipment for transport and placing concrete, subcontractor to Ghezouba Main Contractor
Subcontractor’s Scope
Concrete works using the leased equipment: Tower Belt, Creter Crane, Conveyor belts, Batching Plants.
My Tasks and Responsibilities
Leading a team of 6-8 concrete dispatchers, equipment operators, mechanical and electricals technicians operating and maintaining the concreting equipment Tower Belt. Ensuring the smooth and un-interrupted activity of one of the four Tower Belt’s for placing concrete (200 m3/hr). Ensuring the liaison between Ghezouba and Rotec, coordinating with Ghezouba all concrete activities on daily, weekly and monthly basis. Rotec was hired for one year by the Owner of the project, the Chinese Government, to train the Chinese teams on how to operate the equipment in an effective manner.
Xiaolangdi Multipurpose Dam Project, Henan Province, China
Scope: Lot 2 Civil construction works – Derivation Works: Plunge Pool structures, Intake Towers structures, 2 x Derivation Tunnels.
Employer: Ed. Zublin, GER., sponsor of CGIC JV, Contractor
Position: Shift engineer and Section engineer in Concrete Dept.
Responsibilities: Shift engineer in charge of one working shift in the Plunge Pool area. Thereafter, promoted to Section engineer, in charge with the technical documentation on site, in direct connection with the XECC Engineer representative and with the Chinese Subcontractor “Bureau 7”: reviewing the IFC drawings for formwork and steel and issuing the FCR’s, following-up on the quality of works, requesting the Engineer’s inspections and formalizing the release for concreting, monthly planning the concrete activities for the next three months and issuing weekly plans. After the River Diversion, in charge with the technical documentation on site in the Intake Towers area, in direct connection with the XECC Engineer representative and with the Chinese Subcontractor “Bureau 11”.
Various Hydropower and Water supply projects, Romania
Employer: HYDRO-CONSTRUCTIA S.A., RO, Contractor
Position: Estimator, Project Controller, Qty. Surveyor, Civil engineer
Responsibilities: Site Engineer on construction site of HPP Satic: Pecineagu Dam on Dambovita river: Rockfill Dam 100 m high with Reinforced concrete slab on the front slope, 5 km Headrace tunnel Dia. 5 m. concrete lined.
Then moved to the Hydro-Constructia’s head office, as Design engineer and Cost estimator in charge with issuing Detailed Design, Material Take-off and Cost estimates for various sections of the hydropower projects: headrace/tailrace tunnels, surge shafts, water channels (cut and fill), loading chambers, penstocks. The HPP’s I’ve been in charge of: Dragoslavele hydro power plant (river Dambovita), Rusenesti and Izbiceni HPP’s (river Olt), repair works to the headrace tunnel Bicaz HPP (river Bicaz).
Then I was assigned to the Technical Dept. in charge of project controls for the above mentioned HPP’s sites: monitoring the progress of works and actual cost of works and issuing reports on these matters.
